Lahore packs centuries of history, some of the best food in Pakistan and a famous border ceremony into one city. The catch is getting around. The main sights are spread from the Walled City in the north to Wagah on the eastern edge, traffic can be heavy, and parking near the old city is limited. A private car with a driver solves all of that: you follow your own pace, the driver handles the roads, and your bags, shopping and water stay safely in the car between stops.
This guide gives you a practical one-day Lahore city tour by car, a shorter half-day version, tips for each stop and how to book a car with driver from 1 Call Cabs. It works for overseas Pakistanis showing family around, foreign visitors on a short stay and locals hosting guests from other cities.
Your own schedule: linger at the Fort, skip the museum, or add a shopping stop without waiting for a group.
No parking stress: the driver drops you at the entrance and waits nearby or picks you up when you call.
Comfort in all weather: an air-conditioned car between stops makes a big difference in summer.
Good for families: elderly parents and young children can rest between sights.
Local knowledge: drivers know the routes around the old city and how traffic builds before the Wagah ceremony.
Note that self drive rentals have a minimum of 5 days, so for a one-day city tour you will be booking a car with driver. That is usually the better choice anyway in the narrow streets around the Walled City.
This plan suits a full day of around 9 to 10 hours. Timings are flexible and depend on traffic, the season and how long you spend at each place.
Start early at the heart of Mughal Lahore. The Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort face each other across the Hazuri Bagh, so one drop-off covers both. The Lahore Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, together with the Shalimar Gardens, and its highlights include the Sheesh Mahal (Palace of Mirrors) and the Alamgiri Gate. Give yourself two to three hours here.
At the mosque, dress modestly, remove your shoes at the entrance and, for women, carry a scarf to cover your head. Avoid arriving during prayer times, especially at midday on Fridays, when the mosque is busy with worshippers.
Minar-e-Pakistan stands in Greater Iqbal Park just next to the Fort, so it is easy to add a quick photo stop before moving on.
From the Fort, your driver can take you to Delhi Gate, one of the main entrances to the old Walled City. The lanes inside are too narrow and crowded for a car, so this part is best done on foot. Walk to the Shahi Hammam, a restored Mughal bathhouse just inside the gate, and on to the Wazir Khan Mosque, famous for its tile work and painted frescoes. Your driver waits outside and meets you when you are done.
Fort Road Food Street, close to the Badshahi Mosque, is a popular choice for traditional Lahori food with views of the mosque. If you prefer a quieter lunch, ask your driver to head towards Gulberg instead, where you will find a wide choice of restaurants and cafes.
You now have two good options, depending on your interests:
Shalimar Gardens: the Mughal terraced gardens on the GT Road side of the city. They sit in the direction of Wagah, which makes them a convenient last stop before the ceremony.
Mall Road: the Lahore Museum, the historic Zamzama gun outside it and nearby Anarkali Bazaar for shopping. Check the museum's opening days and hours before you go.
The flag-lowering ceremony at Wagah takes place every evening shortly before sunset, so the exact time changes with the seasons. Plan to arrive well before it starts, because seating fills up and traffic on the approach road gets heavy in the last part of the drive. Carry your CNIC or passport, as security checks apply. The border is on the eastern edge of Lahore, so allow plenty of time from the city depending on traffic.
On the way back, finish with dinner at Food Street, MM Alam Road or Liberty Market in Gulberg before your driver drops you at your hotel or home. If you are staying in Gulberg, many of the city's hotels and restaurants are close by.
Short on time? A half-day tour of 4 to 5 hours can still cover the highlights:
Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort
Minar-e-Pakistan photo stop
A short walk from Delhi Gate to the Wazir Khan Mosque
Lunch or tea at Fort Road Food Street
Alternatively, spend the morning on your own and book a car only for the afternoon run to Shalimar Gardens and the Wagah ceremony.
With two days you can slow down and add places that a single day cannot fit, such as Jahangir's Tomb across the Ravi River in Shahdara, a longer museum visit, or an evening of shopping and dining in Gulberg and DHA. Groups that want a planned outing can also look at our Lahore city group tour service.

Our terms and conditions explain these points in full.
Start early. Mornings are cooler and the main sights are less crowded.
Plan around the weather. Summer afternoons are very hot, and winter mornings can bring fog, so build in extra time.
Wear comfortable shoes. The Fort and the Walled City involve a lot of walking.
Carry ID and some cash. You will need ID at Wagah, and small shops and ticket counters often prefer cash.
Save your driver's number. It makes pickups from busy gates much easier.
Combine it with your arrival. If you are landing in Lahore, we can collect you from the airport and start the tour later the same day or the next morning.
Many visitors book a city tour together with their airport transfer. Our Allama Iqbal International Airport transfer can meet you on arrival, and the rent a car with driver service covers the rest of your stay. If you are visiting from abroad, our guide to renting a car in Lahore for overseas Pakistanis and foreign visitors covers documents and booking tips.

Yes, you can cover the main highlights in one full day by car: Badshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort, the Walled City, Food Street, Shalimar Gardens or Mall Road, and the Wagah ceremony at sunset. Two days let you enjoy it at a slower pace.
Yes. 1 Call Cabs offers cars with driver by the day for city tours. Self drive has a 5 day minimum, so for a single sightseeing day a car with driver is the option to book.
The ceremony is held every evening shortly before sunset, so the timing changes through the year. Leave the city well ahead of time, as seating fills early and traffic on the approach road gets heavy.
The client provides the driver's meal. If you prefer not to, a charge of PKR 2,000 per day applies instead.
For up to seven people, the Honda BRV is a comfortable and affordable choice. Larger families or groups can book the Kia Carnival or Hiace Grand Cabin with driver.
